SOF Connect, the operator of Sofia Airport, today launched a new access system and traffic organisation in front of Terminal 2

The system meets European best practices and aims to improve traffic management, safety and quality of  service for passengers and greeters. It has also been designed to prevent poor parking and congestion while offering flexible and convenient short stay and parking solutions.

“SOF Connect is actively working to provide travellers with a safer, more convenient and better organised passenger experience at Terminal 2. The introduction of the controlled access system is an important step in the transformation of Sofia Airport into a modern European airport.

“It is based on the highest European standards and successful models of airports such as Munich, Amsterdam and Rome, which have proven the effectiveness of such traffic management,” said Jesús Caballero, CEO of SOF Connect.

Effective January 9, 2025, every traveller who wants to reach Terminal 2 by car will pass through barrier systems that register car numbers.

Kiss & Ride zone

Sofia’s new system will also introduce the concept of a Kiss & Ride, an area specifically designed for short free-of-charge stays where drivers can drop off or pick up passengers without blocking traffic. In the Kiss & Ride area, drivers will have ten minutes of free-of-charge stay. The minimum time between two free-of-charge entries is 60 minutes.

An extended free-of-charge stay of up to 30 minutes is provided for vehicles of passengers with reduced mobility (PRM).

Tourist transfer buses will be entitled to 30 minutes free-of-charge stay in the Kiss & Ride area and at the nearby P8 car park until the end of March 2025. The minimum time between two free of charge entries is 60 minutes.
