Textron Ground Support Equipment has announced the launch of the Safeaero 220E, an all-electric option for the Safeaero 220 deicer, at the GSE Expo 2024.
“The development of the Safeaero 220E is the latest example of Textron GSE’s commitment to electrification, sustainability and customer requirements,” said Morgan Gresens, vice president and general manager, GSE for Textron Specialized Vehicles.
“We invested significantly and are showing our commitment to provide our customers with electrified, zero-emission GSE solutions that don’t compromise the safety, operational efficiency and performance on the tarmac for which Textron GSE is known.”
The company says the Safeaero 220 platform is the only “genuine single-operator deicer in the industry". Its design enables a single operator to drive, manoeuvre and spray from the cab.
The Safeaero 220 can service a range of aircraft, from smaller regional types to wide-bodies, and features wireless data transfer and remote diagnostics tools to allow operators to quickly track the unit’s performance.
Textron GSE partnered with Equipmake to develop the product. Ian Foley, CEO of Equipmake, said: “Textron GSE’s selection of Equipmake to assist in the electrification of the Safeaero 220 deicer is a considerable endorsement of both our products and technology, and our ability to apply them in new, important industry sectors.
“We are proud to support Textron GSE as it transitions its product range to zero emissions to meet its sustainability goals.”
