Spanish airports enjoyed a record August with summer 2024 proving to be the best in Aena's history, the operator said.

Airports across the Aena network ended August with an all-time record number of passengers, maintaining an upward trend seen since the beginning of the year. In the period from 1 June to 31 August, Aena airports handled 93,459,823 passengers, 8.5 percent more than in the same period last year.
There were 753,441 operations, 7.9 percent more than in 2023 and 313,131 tonnes of freight were transported, an increase of 22 percent.
In August 2024 alone, Aena handled 32,116,068 passengers, 7.4 percent more than in the same month of 2023, with 254,137 aircraft movements, 7.7 percent more than in 2023, and 104,435 tonnes of cargo, up 20.3 percent on last year. Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport remains the busiest in the network, followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, Palma de Mallorca, and Málaga-Costa del Sol.
