Portugal’s first airport solar power plant has been commissioned, at Faro Airport in the country’s Algarve district.
With a capacity of 3 MWp, the plant will provide 30% of the airport’s electricity requirements, thus reducing CO2 emissions by more than 1,500 tonnes per year.
Faro Airport is managed by ANA (VINCI Airports/ VINCI Concessions). The new plant has been financed, developed, built and is being operated by VINCI Airports via its photovoltaic subsidiary SunMind.
This initiative forms part of the worldwide decarbonisation programme launched by VINCI Airports, which is working to achieve zero net carbon emissions before 2030 at its airports in Portugal and throughout the European Union, and in 2050 at the latest at all of its airports worldwide.
