On September 10, Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) will host the BNE Careers Expo in a bid to attract up to 2,000 new workers.
The event will enable prospective candidates to meet firms “face-to-face”, and a wide range of roles will be available. These include positions within baggage handling, security, engineering, airlines, retail workers, hospitality, customer service, bus driving, landscaping, corporate services, and government agencies.
According to Gert-Jan de Graaff, BAC’s chief executive officer, the upcoming Expo will not just be used to fill vacancies, but also to help candidates explore future career opportunities at the Queensland site. Approximately 24,000 people are currently employed across 425 businesses at the airport, with this forecast to increase to 60,000 by 2050.
De Graaff said: “We need to get people thinking about this place as not only a gateway for a holiday, but a destination for a satisfying career. This is one of the most important job hubs in Queensland. You can work nine to five in an office, or you can work at an airport city. I’ve been around airports for most of my life, there’s a buzz here you don’t find anywhere else, no matter what industry you work in. There is honestly something interesting happening on this precinct all the time.
“The Brisbane Airport precinct is a 24/7 city in itself. There are shifts around the clock that can work with modern families and their needs. We have people here choosing to do shifts that fit around their kids, or partners’ work. We have day-care onsite. This is a place that never closes, serving the needs of Queensland. And you get a free airshow every day.”
