UPS has inaugurated a new logistics hub at Lyon-Saint Exupéry, part of a larger modernisation project involving the French airport’s CargoPort facility.
In the year to September 2022, 40,000 tonnes of air cargo were handled at the hub, representing a 7% growth compared to 2021. As the second largest cargo airport in France, Lyon is a key player in the local economy, providing more than 1,500 full-time jobs and supporting a large number of local companies, particularly those involved in the pharmaceutical industry and express freight. The new hub has the capacity to sort 3,000 packages per hour.
In line with operator Vinci Airports’ environmental ambitions, the UPS building has been designed to optimise energy consumption and reduce CO2 emissions. It is LEED-certified, thanks to a 20 to 25% reduction in energy consumption and a 33% reduction in CO2 emissions.
