Volodymyr Kudak is CEO of Kyiv Sikorsky International Airport (IEV). He and his colleague, deputy head of development Iryna Gyza, spoke to the WTW Airport Risk Community (ARC) about their experiences since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022.
A Ukrainian PPP
Kudak set the scene by explaining that the airport has been operated as a public-private partnership (PPP) since Master-Avia came on board in 2010, working with the Kyiv City State Administration. The Kyiv-based firm has since invested more than €100m in the airport, facilitating infrastructure modernisation and improved operational efficiency. The decade preceding the invasion saw the construction of three new passenger terminals (international, domestic and VIP) and a modern concrete apron capable of handling ten Class C aircraft.
