Security screening specialist Smiths Detection will provide Fukuoka International Airport with seven HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX Model S X-ray scanners complete with seven automatic tray return systems, the iLane A20. The technology will be in use in the newly renovated international terminal.
The HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX Model S is a smaller footprint version of Smiths Detection’s computed tomography (CT) passenger checkpoint scanner. The Model S is 20cm narrower and 350kg lighter than the HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX, which means it can be easily integrated into new airport or critical infrastructure checkpoints. Both models produce high-resolution, rotatable 3D images that provide a more comprehensive assessment of baggage contents, result-ing in lower false-alarm rates.
The iLane A20 delivers high throughput and efficiency, streamlining the screening process and eliminating passenger bottlenecks. Empty tray verification (ETV) will also be included, to ensure all trays are devoid of personal belongings, unauthorised objects, or restricted items before being returned to the tray return unit.
Smiths Detection’s technology will be installed at Fukuoka by the end of March 2025.
