A new Indra distance measuring equipment (DME) system has been installed at Ireland West Airport Knock (IWAK)

Systems Interface Ltd (SIL), in collaboration with principal contractor Tiernan Engineering, replaced the outdated DME equipment with an advanced Indra LDB-103 Low Power DME with remote control and monitoring, a new mast and antenna, and installed a fully insulated and air-conditioned fibreglass equipment shelter. A complete turnkey package was provided, including project management, system design, equipment provision, installation and commissioning.

Frequentis Group company SIL also provided the DME Safety Case, which secured approval from both the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA). SIL successfully delivered the replacement DME system within the allocated budget and approval for operational use was granted on November 27, 2023.
