Griffiths Farrans JV has achieved a significant milestone in its public transport project at Bristol Airport, marking the topping out phase.

Levels one to three of the development are now complete, with level four nearing finalisation.
Meanwhile, mechanical and electrical systems are being installed on levels zero to two, alongside progress on vehicle restraint systems on levels one and two.

The £60 million project, Bristol Airport’s largest capital investment to date, includes a state-of-the-art public transport interchange and a multi-storey car park designed to improve accessibility and customer experience.

The initiative aims to transform the airport into one of the region’s leading bus and coach interchanges, with 16 dedicated bays—more than double the current capacity—on the car park’s top level.

The multi-storey car park will offer over 2,000 spaces, modern technology, blue badge parking, and comfortable waiting facilities. A dedicated drop-off and pick-up zone on the top level, connected to the terminal via a glazed pedestrian bridge, ensures convenience for travellers.

The project also includes an upgraded internal road network, further enhancing access for public transport services and private vehicles.

Andrew Goodenough, infrastructure director, Bristol Airport said: “This is an important milestone, as we are a significant step closer to opening one of the region’s largest Public Transport Interchanges next summer, which will offer even more sustainable travel options to the Airport.

“I’m pleased to say we have recycled over 100,000 tonnes of material on site and aim to have no disposal off site at all. It’s also great that T level students have been involved in the project too, as we are committed to supporting young people, both now and in the future.

“We’re delighted that this complex project, which also managed to trial Volvo’s zero-exhaust emission EC230 electric excavator, in collaboration with Chepstow Plant, is on track with minimum impact on operations, due to close coordination with Griffiths Farrans JV, who are a longstanding partner in the Airport’s development.”
