San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport (OAK) has begun Phase 1 of construction for its Terminal 1 Check-In Counter Replacement Project.

The refreshed lobby will feature new and modern finishes and lighting that will brighten the space. The primary contractor for the project is Turner Construction.

“We are so pleased to be kicking off this critical renovation of our Terminal 1 check-in lobby to enhance departing passenger experience at OAK,” said Craig Simon, director of aviation at the Port of Oakland. “We look forward to working collaboratively with Turner Construction to optimise the phasing and minimise disruption throughout the duration of this project.”

The scope of the project includes replacing the check-in counters and overhead soffit, upgrading the light fixtures, and repainting the lobby ceiling and back walls. Airlines operating check-in counters in OAK’s Terminal 1 include: Hawaiian Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Alaska Airlines, Allegiant Airlines, Spirit Airlines, SATA Azores Airlines, Volaris Airlines/Volaris El Salvador, Sun Country Airlines, Advanced Air, and Viva Aerobus. The project will be completed in phases, with airlines experiencing temporary relocations as their stations are renovated. The estimated project completion date is spring 2025.

In the project’s Phase 1, a number of airlines will temporarily relocate, among them: SATA Azores Airlines, Volaris Airlines/Volaris El Salvador, Spirit Airlines, and Allegiant Airlines. OAK will provide additional project information and guidance for passengers via its social media channels.
