Miami International Airport passengers departing from concourses D, H, and J during peak times can now preschedule their TSA checkpoint screening time.
Reserved screening times are available daily, via MIA Reserve, a free reservation service, to American Airlines passengers at Miami International Airport’s (MIA) TSA Checkpoint 4 from 5:00am to 6.00pm and at Checkpoint 9 for all passengers departing from concourses H and J from 5:00am to 11:00am.
This initiative builds on a six-month pilot programme that the airport began in September with security technology firm Pangiam, software and consultancy company Copenhagen Optimization, and secure identity platform CLEAR.
Reservations are limited and can be scheduled up to 72 hours before a flight. Appointments are available up to 60 minutes before domestic flights and up to 90 minutes before international flights.
“As MIA continues to set new records in passenger traffic, I’m proud to see that we are also exploring new ways to streamline the airport experience for our visitors. MIA Reserve has the potential to help many of our travellers get through the security checkpoint faster than ever before,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava.
If a traveller didn’t pre-schedule an MIA Reserve time before arriving at MIA, they can still make a reservation by using their smartphone to scan the QR code on the MIA Reserve signs at Checkpoint 4 and then setting up an appointment.
There is a grace period of ten minutes per appointment but anyone arriving more than ten minutes past their appointment time must enter through the regular queue lanes.
Passengers travelling with a group may book on behalf of the other passengers in their travelling party by specifying the total party size during the reservation process. The maximum group size eligible to enter under one appointment is ten passengers.
