Manchester Airport is resurrecting a popular pre-pandemic tradition, inviting singers and musicians to perform in its terminals at Christmas

School choirs and community singing and musical groups are being invited to perform festive favourites in Manchester Airport’s three terminals over the Christmas period to raise money for charity.

As well as raising funds for their chosen charities and the airport’s supported charities (Magic Breakfast, Medcare, The Children’s Society and Childflight), groups will add a festive feel to the terminals and help passengers start their winter breaks in style – or arrive home to a warm, Christmassy welcome – the airport operator said.

The drive is being organised by the airport’s education, community and Chaplaincy teams. The airport’s Chaplaincy is a multi-faith service that supports staff and passengers.

Joanna Jackson, senior education and employment manager at Manchester Airport, said:

“The airport has a special atmosphere over the Christmas period. Whether it’s people returning home to be reunited with their loved ones over the festive period or travellers heading out on exciting trips to Lapland or other winter getaways, there’s always a special feeling in the air.

“Our terminals will be suitably decorated but we want to add to that by inviting school choirs and local singing and musical groups in to perform for passengers and staff in our terminals.

“It’s a great opportunity to bring joy to a lot of people but also a chance for groups to raise money for their chosen charities and our own.

“There’s nothing quite like a choir singing carols at Christmas to bring the festive spirit and I can’t wait to hear local groups at the airport.”

Pre-booked slots to perform are available on weekdays throughout December between 8:00am and 6:00pm.
