The buildings, factories and transportation infrastructure businesses of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Construction are to build the greenfield Bhogapuram International Airport.
The contract for construction of the Andhra Pradesh airport was awarded by GMR Visakhapatnam International Airport Limited. The project will initially be developed for a 6 mpa (million passengers per annum) capacity, and ultimately 12 mpa.
The project includes cut and fill works, terminal works with airports systems, building of an ATC tower, airfield development works (south runway, apron, taxiways, airfield ground lighting, fuel hydrant works and so on), landside facilities (roads, landscapes, etc.), utilities and other support facilities.
The airport site lies on the border of Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram districts, and is approximately 45km from Visakhapatnam and 25km from Vizianagaram. The site is strategically located on the east coast and stands to benefit from the vast catchment area surrounding the region.
