Los Angeles International Airport has unveiled its Sustain With Love initiative to support the elimination of single-use plastic water bottles.

Travellers using Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) have a new reason to love the airport’s mission to reduce single-use plastic water bottles, it says. The exclusive LOVE at LAX water bottles by MOBOT, with art design from well-known Los Angeles artist Ruben Rojas, are now available at select retail stores.

Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) Airports in partnership with Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) has launched the Sustain with Love water bottle campaign in support of the airport’s move to encourage more sustainable travel. From December 1-31, guests who spend $75 at a specialty retail store in LAX Terminals 1,2,3,6, Tom Bradley International Terminal and West Gates are eligible to receive the bottle as a gift while supplies last.

URW was inspired by LAX’s mission to eliminate single-use plastic water bottles and wanted to celebrate the eco-friendly movement by rewarding guests with a one-of-a-kind water bottle. Guests are encouraged to fill up their water bottle at any of the airport’s hydration stations.

The MOBOT water bottle, which doubles as a foam roller, features artist Ruben Rojas’ signature bold LOVE graffiti. The bottles are made from 100% recycled stainless steel, non-toxic high-density EVA foam, are FDA approved, BPA free and come with stainless steel straws.

“Eliminating single-use plastic water bottles is essential to improving our environment and enhancing sustainability across our airports,” said Bea Hsu, interim chief executive officer, Los Angeles World Airports. “We thank our partners at URW for supporting our goals for a greener future in a way that is meaningful and useful for our guests, and we look forward to seeing passengers use their new MOBOT water bottle at our hydration stations.”

LAX prohibited the sale of single-use water bottles in June after a two-year phase-out period that allowed airport businesses to use up inventories of plastic water bottles and modify purchasing contracts before switching to compliant products. Under the policy, which is part of LA’s New Green Deal, LAWA and businesses with lease or concession agreements at LAX and Van Nuys Airport (VNY) are required to substitute single-use plastic water bottles with containers made from sustainable alternatives, including recyclable aluminium or glass.

Rojas, known for beautifying LA through his “Love” messaging, uses art to inspire others to see through the 'lens of love'. His murals can be spotted all over the world, including at more than 20 locations in the Los Angeles area.
