Joby Aviation has received two certifications from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as it progresses toward launching commercial passenger services.
The company has been awarded a Part 141 certificate for its aviation academy and gained FAA acceptance of its voluntary Safety Management System (SMS) under Part 5 regulations.
The FAA Part 141 certification allows Joby Aviation Academy to provide streamlined pilot training, ensuring a steady pipeline of qualified pilots to support the company’s future air taxi operations.
The academy plans to offer courses including private pilot training, instrument rating, and commercial pilot certification, preparing candidates for roles at Joby or within the broader aviation industry.
Joby’s Part 135 charter operation has achieved early compliance with the FAA’s voluntary SMS requirements.
These regulations, designed to enhance operational safety, mandate robust policies and procedures, a culture of safety, and transparent reporting mechanisms.
Although compliance is not mandatory for several years, Joby has positioned itself as an industry leader by achieving this ahead of schedule.
