The New Terminal One at JFK, an all-international terminal scheduled to open in 2026, has issued two requests for proposals (RFPs) from ground handling service firms

The RFPs are calling for two providers for above the wing ground handling services, and two providers for below the wing ground handling services.

The New Terminal One (NTO) is a key component of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s $19bn transformation of JFK Airport, which will include two new terminals, the modernisation and expansion of two existing terminals, a new ground transportation centre, and a new, simplified roadway network.

Above the wing

Core responsibilities of the two above the wing ground handling service providers appointed by NTO will include: passenger and baggage check-in; boarding and flight escort services; operating the baggage service office (BSO), and assisting passengers in the re-check area. They also cover meeting arriving flights and assisting during irregular operations.

Below the wing

The second RFP invites proposals for two below the wing ground handling services providers to deliver effective service management solutions, including: providing fully trained and experienced labour service in addition to facilitating safe, smooth, and efficient operations for customer airlines, passengers, service providers, and other stakeholders. It also involves utilising provided electric ground support equipment (eGSE) for aircraft servicing and support.

“We are seeking innovative partners who share our vision of delivering an extraordinary guest experience,” said The New Terminal One vice president of operations Marisa Von Wieding. “The selected providers will be instrumental in setting new standards for airport operations and maintaining the New Terminal One’s position as a global leader in the aviation industry.”

Aligned with the New Terminal One and the Port Authority’s commitment to diversity and creating economic opportunities in the local community, the developer strongly encourages local, minority, women and service-disabled veteran-owned businesses to participate in the RFP.
