Airports International conducted an online survey on behalf of Hitachi Vantara in July 2020, in order to understand the industry’s view on recovery from the pandemic and the use of technology to provide an enhanced customer experience. The findings made for interesting reading.
This industry has widely discussed when there will be a return to normailty post-COVID. Roughly one-third of respondents felt that pre-pandemic passenger levels would return within a year, while an additional third felt that the timeline would be longer.
When looking at enhancing the passenger experience and airport operations, confidence in health measures, along with efficiency and safety, came to the top of the priorities. A more efficient airport arrival and improved gate experience to facilitate on-time performance of flights was key, as was the ability to detect dangerous activities within the terminal.
