The operator has installed and commissioned advanced navigational infrastructure at GMR Hyderabad International Airport (RGIA), marking a significant advancement in the facility's operational capabilities and safety protocols.
The airport has completed the installation and commissioning of Category II Instrument Landing System (ILS) and associated runway lighting system on the primary runway. This new system enables aircraft to safely land in challenging visibility conditions as low as 300m runway visual range (RVR). Category II ILS represents a significant upgrade from Category I systems, providing pilots with more precise guidance through a combination of highly accurate radio signals and advanced ground lighting systems. This enhanced capability is crucial during adverse weather conditions, particularly in fog or when visual references are severely limited below CAT I conditions.
Commenting on the upgrade, Pradeep Panicker, CEO of GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited, said: “The implementation of these advanced navigational systems represents a significant milestone in GMR Hyderabad International Airport’s technological infrastructure development. This enhancement substantially elevates our operational parameters while ensuring adherence to the highest safety standards in aviation operations.”
The upgrades comply with International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) specifications and have received all necessary certifications from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
