Funded by the European Commission under the EIT’s Urban Mobility initiative, U-SAVE aims to improve response times and safety, avoiding road traffic congestion and associated risks during emergencies and increasing the efficiency of emergency services. Advanced systems are designed to operate efficiently in complex urban aerial environments, providing a reliable and eco-friendly alternative to conventional ground-based emergency response methods. The proposed aerial service will be integrated through intelligent modular software specifically tailored for air traffic management and urban air mobility (UAM) emergency operations, providing a robust and resilient solution.
The project consortium includes the Aragonese Aerospace Cluster (AERA), the Aragonese Innovative Logistics Association (ALIA), airspace solutions provider ANRA Technologies, and the Estonian Aviation Academy (EAVA). Public institutions backing U-SAVE include Zaragoza City Council, the Aragonese Institute of Health Sciences, Hernán Cortés Hospital Group, the Aragón Health Cluster, and the city of Tartu in Estonia. The project has also been endorsed by health and logistics firms Novaltia and Prolog.
EHang brings to the project its EH216 series pilotless eVTOL aircraft system, its extensive operational expertise and in-depth knowledge of UAM, and an established footprint across Europe. The project will feature flight demonstration campaigns in two European host cities – Zaragoza and Tartu. Trial and test flights will be conducted at EHang’s UAM Centre at the Lleida–Alguaire International Airport in Spain.
“U-SAVE represents a ground-breaking approach to urban emergency logistics, combining advanced technology with sustainable practices to strengthen urban resilience and safety. We are proud to contribute our EH216 series pilotless eVTOL aircraft system to provide innovative, fast and safe solutions for enhancing the sustainability and efficiency of emergency response services in cities and thus improve the quality of urban life,” said Victoria Jing Xiang, chief operating officer of EHang Europe and Latin America.
