Construction work has begun on the extension of the departures terminal on the north side of Romania’s Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport.
The expansion will see the departures terminal grown by approximately 7,200m2 and the aircraft parking platform by nearly 9,000m2. The expanded terminal and extended aircraft parking platform will meet the needs not only of growing passenger volumes, but also the higher number of flights expected, the Transylvanian airport said.
The project is co-financed from the European Fund for Regional Development through the Large Infrastructure Operational Programme 2014-2020. The project financing agreement is worth approximately €74m, €26m of which was provided by the European Union.
