Sardinia’s first public electric vehicle fast charging system has been installed at Cagliari Elmas Airport (IATA: CAG).
The recharging facility, which is in the airport terminal’s car park, was developed in partnership between the Italian firm Ricarica and airport operator SOGAER.
Renato Branca, SOGAER’s managing director, said: “Cagliari Airport has taken a further step towards sustainable travel by equipping itself with an innovative ‘green’ service.
“We have already purchased electric vehicles for service needs and introduced parking spaces for those who are car-sharing, and now we have added the charging stations.”
Mr Branca said the airport had already acquired certification from ACI Europe’s carbon accreditation scheme for reducing its CO2 emissions across the airport.
“We aim to distinguish ourselves for environmental best practices at national and European level as we are aware that we need to participate in protecting our ecosystem,” he added.
“We are convinced that our local environment and beauty of this area are the most important resources for the development of our island’s tourism and economy, and we are determined to work towards sustainability.”
