Brisbane Airport (BNE) is part-way through its Future BNE transformation, which includes planning for a third terminal as well as extensive modernisation of its existing domestic and international terminals. The project is designed to change the way people travel, create jobs and prepare the region for 2032 and beyond.
As part of this modernisation, the airport has chosen Amadeus technology to improve the passenger experience at both its domestic and international terminals.
Passenger processing technology will move to the cloud with the introduction of Amadeus’ Airport Cloud Use Service to power more than 300 agent-assisted check-in desks across both terminals, facilitating easier connection and common-use capabilities for its airline partners. The airport will also move away from legacy technology to embrace around 100 new self-service bag-drop units and more than 260 self-service check-in kiosks from Amadeus.
The new technology will enable Brisbane Airport to reduce queues, and allow passengers to choose between a smooth self-service or agent-led experience, powered by reliable technology that removes friction at check-in and bag drop.
Work on the project has commenced, with the first self-service units already deployed at Brisbane’s international terminal.
Gert-Jan de Graaf, Brisbane Airport CEO, said: “The first new-generation check-in row is already up and running, and the feedback from travellers and airline staff has been fantastic. It’s a giant leap from the 1990s to now.”
Sarah Samuel, senior vice president APAC, airport and airline operations, Amadeus, added: “Brisbane is a great example of an airport with a long-term transformation strategy that places the traveller at the heart of the experience. With flexible cloud infrastructure and advanced self-service options, the technology foundations are being laid so Brisbane can offer passengers an outstanding experience for years to come.”
The project is expected to be complete during 2026, with an Amadeus field services team providing 24/7 support for the duration of the contract.
