Alstef Group has installed a new baggage handling system at Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM) in Sint Maarten

The installation is part of the airport's recovery and modernisation plan following the devastating effects of Hurricane Irma in 2017, and was overseen by the World Bank. The newly installed baggage handling system (BHS) will play a vital role in supporting the airport's operations as a major gateway to key regional destinations, including Anguilla, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy.

The completed baggage handling system includes: 22 check-in locations, two in-line Standard 3 CT x-ray machines, automated sortation to three make-up carousels, powered by Alstef Group’s proprietary BAGSORT software, and three new horizontal carousels for the inbound system.

The system was installed in multiple phases over three years and is designed to enhance operational efficiency, streamline passenger experiences, and ensure secure and effective baggage processing for travellers across the region, the Alstef Group said.
