Aena airports in Spain broke passenger records in August with 29.8 million people using the network, 9.5% more than in the same month of 2022.
The figure was also 1.4% more than in 2019, before the pandemic, which was the previous record year. In August 2023, Aena managed 235,938 aircraft movements, 5.7% more than in 2022, and 86,809 tonnes of cargo, 10.6% more than last year.
Between January and August 2023, 189 million travellers passed through Aena airports, 1.6 million aircraft movements were recorded and 681,132 tonnes of cargo were transported.
Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport recorded the highest number of passengers in August, with 5.5 million passing through the hub, representing growth of 11.5% compared to the same month last year. It was followed by Barcelona-El Prat Josep Tarradellas Airport, with 4.9 million (+11.4% compared to 2022); Palma de Mallorca Airport, with 4.3 million (+5% ); Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport, with 2.4 million (+17.8%); Alicante-Elche Airport, with 1.7 million (+12.6% ) and Ibiza Airport, with 1.4 million (+5.5%).
