Abu Dhabi Airports embarks on readiness trials ahead of Terminal A opening
Abu Dhabi Airports is conducting its largest live trial and testing exercise ahead of the opening of Terminal A in November.
More than 6,000 volunteers have been tasked with simulating passengers passing through the terminal, in order to stress-test the equipment, staff and procedures.
These include check-in and baggage, security screening, boarding gates and immigration and customs. At immigration, volunteers are testing the speed and accuracy of the document and customs inspections. At boarding and departure, the tests include scanning the boarding passes of volunteers and assessing the procedure preparedness to communicate changes regarding flight information.
Terminal A will be among the largest airport terminals in the world, covering 742,000m2. It will significantly increase Abu Dhabi International Airport’s passenger and cargo capacity.
The airport will be able to handle 45 million passengers per year, and process 11,000 passengers per hour.
